One Saturday in February we drove up to Schleswig (1.5 hours away) and checked out this castle which is now a museum. This first picture is of the front which has now been newly stuccoed. The second was taken from inside the courtyard of a bit of the castle's original brickwork and the third is a fancy fountain in the courtyard. The best thing in this castle museum was the this gigantic Pre-Viking Nydam boat built around 320 AD. It had room for 45 men with oars. It was found in a bog along with tons of Viking swords, shields, horse armor, money, even a super old pair of pants. Researchers think this boat was the type that the anglo-saxtons used to settle England. It was really cool. It was also fun to see our first castle while here in Germany and driving home we got to experience our first blizzard and snowfall since leaving Utah.
