Next we visited Lubeck. This ancient town was founded in 1143 and was once the main ship yard of Luneburg's salt. Here we saw the famous Holstentor Gate built in 1477. We enjoyed the shops of Lubeck's Christmas markets surrounding the old Rathous (Town Hall) and unfortunatley passed on the famous Lubeck marzipan chocolates, we'll get some next time though I'm sure. We walked around St. Mary's Church and found the devil statue. The story behind it was quite entertaining. As the sun set we rode the gigantic traveling ferris wheel and could see all the beautiful rooftops and waterways leading to Lubeck. Later that evening we wandered down the main river leading right into the city center where there were large sailing ships parallel parked along the banks.
