Hamburg's Elbe River in the Winter
On our second day in Hamburg the girls caught the flu along with Tessa Peterson (Wyatt had it 2 days before). All three girls spent the day puking and lying in front of the TV. We had to cancel a lot of our plan to visit other friends since the girls were sick and this flu seemed to have been highly contagious. On the third or fourth day the kids were feeling well enough to walk down to the Elbe River. They had tons of fun on these steep stairs that were full of snow and iced over. The Elbe was at low tide and since it had been so extremely cold this winter there were giant ice bergs piled up all over the beach. The kids had tons of fun climbing and exploring. Aubrie ended up stepping on some of the ice floating around the edge of the water and got stuck a few feet out in the water with no more ice to step on to get back to shore. So after some coaxing she had to wade through the water to get back to shore and then head straight home with her poor wet and cold feet.
